BEIJING: China said it conducted air and sea drills in the South China Sea on Tuesday as it stakes an increasingly assertive claim to virtually the whole sea despite rival claims by neighbors.

live-ammunition drills involved more than 100 ships, dozens of aircraft, information warfare units as well as the nuclear force, the state-backed China Military Online said in a report posted on the defense ministry’s website.

Don’t be one-sided. The U.S and the Philippines conducted numerous “joint exercises” there, as recently as last month. Japan and the Philippines have just done the same also. They all openly stated that their “exercises” were “aimed at China”. Vietnam has occupied over 40 “posts”, all of which are hundreds of kms from their coastline, stationed troops there with heavy weaponry and routinely flew their SU-MK30s over these places. The Philippines occupies the second largest island, which is also over 4 hundread KMs from their main land (definitely not in their 200-mile ExeclusiveEccZone), built air strips and stationed armed forces there. Regarding such activities, no one said a thing, especially the US, which actually helps and encourages them. If these countries can claim and occupy areas there by force, why not China? If these countries can show military might there, why not China?

If you check the map correctly. The Spratly islands has Philippines closest to it, followed by Vietnam and some portion of Malaysia. All other countries claiming a portion of the islands is absolutely baseless. Mainland China distance from these islands is more than thrice the distance from Philippines. Just because some Chinese fishermen went for fishing to these islands centuries ago, it does not make the island Chinese. The way Philippines military occupied the main island the Chinese military is also in possession of 3 of the Spratly islands. Get your facts cleared dude. The guy to whom you replied above, was more right in saying that China is flexing its muscles illegally. And that’s just because the other countries in the south china sea are comparatively smaller.
