The fleet commander says he has enough ships, and the Japanese think tanker says Chinese naval vessel capabilities are low. So we still have dominance in the western Pacific even without adding in the Japanese navy which is actually more modern and capable than the Chinese even if theoretically self defensive.
If the "coming war with China" types had their way we would be procuring lots of super expensive ships, bankrupting ourselves even more to help a lot of countries like the Philippines which likes to free ride and Vietnam which makes a lot of money trading with China but which looks to us to spend our resources protecting them.
