Chinese President Xi Jinping greeted Communist Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong with full military honors Tuesday at the Great Hall of the People, the seat of the legislature in the heart of Beijing, after which the two presided over talks and the signing of a raft of cooperation agreements.

At least the Vietnamese has the sense to play both sides. They obviously know the US would love nothing more than have the Communist government overthrown and replaced with their own pro-US Vietnamese cronies.

Glad that China and Japan are making up, and Vietnam and China are too. Asia has so much potential. A strong case can be made for an Asian Union, but learn from EU’s mistakes.

If war were to break out between China and Vietnam, Vietnam has no chance because China military presumably has vastly improved. Vietnam could ill afford another war. Perhaps sensing this, the Vietnamese leaders try to find solution(s). Unlike Philippines, Vietnam is not a US allied so they will have to fight China alone. China appears determined to take over South China sea no matter what. Highly likely nothing good will come out of this for Vietnam. The only thing that may change Chinese’s mind is international sanctions. Good luck with that.

China will slowly swallow everything in southeast Asia politically,economically and finanacially. Just watch and see. Most of the surrounding nations in that region does not have the finance power or economic means to stand up to China.
