针对美国驻印度大使维马尔近日访问中印边界的达旺地区，中国外交部发言人陆慷24日表示，美国这位高级外交官所去的地区是一个争议地区。中方对美国高级外交官到中印边界争议地区活动表示坚决反对。

陆慷表示，我们对中印边界东段地区的立场是一贯和明确的。中印两国正在通过谈判协商解决领土争议，任何负责任的第三方都应尊重中印双方寻求和平、安定与和解的努力，而不是相反。美方的做法与中印双方的努力背道而驰，只会使争议进一步复杂化，破坏中印边境地区来之不易的和平与安宁，危害本地区和平与安宁。我们敦促美方停止介入中印领土争议，多做有利于本地区和平稳定的事。中印边界问题非常复杂敏感，第三方的介入只会挑起和激化矛盾，最终受害的还是中印两国人民。中印作为两个大国，能够拿出足够的政治智慧，确保两国边境地区的和平与安宁，维护好两国人民的切身利益。

这是美国大使首次访问达旺地区。印度外交部24日反驳中方指责，称美国大使访问“阿鲁纳恰尔邦”“并无不妥”。有媒体分析，印度政府正借助外交手段强化对争议地区的主权声索。
