Who would have guessed just three years agothat the DavidCamerongovernment would be the author of the boldest change in Britishforeign policy since the second world war? That is exactly what is nowunfolding.
The process began this year when theBritish government announced it would join a Chinese initiative to help fundAsia's enormous infrastructural needs. The UK became the first non-Asiancountry to join the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), after whichmore than 30 other countries joined, including Germany and France.

This headline is not news. This has beenknown a very long time.
The GDP of China has grown from a littleover $1trillion to $12trillion since 2001, and by 2018 will over take the USA.
There are more Chinese millionaires than UKones. There are one million Chinese millionaires and 345,000 UK millionaires.
This is still a communist country, but inreality it is more capitalist than the UK.
The market for China will soon be biggerthan the EU.
The Chinese, on average, tend to save a lotmore than the West. All this cash sloshing around in Chinese banks has been thesource of the Wests cheap money for over a decade now. In addition I doubt manyof you reading this will not have something 'Made in China' within arms length.
The days when China only made rice cakesand Xmas cracker toys are about 50 years out of date, and any idea we candictate to China is also out of date.
In times gone by we would patronisinglybelieve we could call the shots. Now they call the shots.
China will not stop growing in 2018. It isstill on the rise. At 1.4 billion people, it is 2300% bigger than the UK, andnearly 400% of the USA.
We can still mention human rights, but weno longer have the clout to call the shots, and we really cant afford to takeon this giant in any way.
The only thing to do is to embrace China.

We will enjoy more world peace andprosperity if more US and EU people can think this way. Sure everyone can thinkfrom his/her narrow scope of ideology based on his/her own life experience. Butwhat's the fuzz of having conflicts base on this? May be even your next doorneighbor think differently from you.

A country rising without democracy, transparency, accountability, is dangerous.
Yes but enough about the United States ofAmerica what's your view about China?

A year ago, Martin Jacques was denouncingHong Kong's umbrella movement, and now he is doing PR work for Beijing in thepages of the Guardian.

Evidence of China's progress and Americandecline arrives every day. But that doesn't mean we should tie our economicfutures together. The Chinese want Australian resources and Japanesehigh-technology, but what do we have to sell them? Burberry? Bank fraud?Downton Abbey?

but what do we have to sell them?
Our souls and our grandmothers.
