“What the Chinese have invested into railways is a mind boggling number. From 2009, they have put in more than 2 per cent of their GDP whereas our share was 0.4 per cent of our GDP.
3月14日,印度铁道部长苏雷什?普拉布表示,印度铁路建设无法与中国以及一些发达国家相比。
“中国人对铁路的投资额是不可思议的。从2009年起,他们把GDP的超过2%投入铁路建设中,而我们的这一比例仅为0.4%。”
“The Chinese economy, which is the second largest in the world, is worth $10 trillion, whereas ours is around $2 trillion. So there cannot be a comparison, but yes, we need more investment and we are finding out resources for that,” Prabhu said while replying to a discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the railway budget.
“作为世界第二大经济体,中国国内生产总值超10万亿美元,而我们的大约是2万亿美元。所以没有可比性。我们的铁路需要更多投资,我们正为此寻找资源。”普拉布在回应联邦院关于铁路建设预算时表示。

Two most common diseases of Indian Railway is populism and inertia. Each political party wants to get political mileage through giving unnecessary employment, giving passenger subsidy etc. As regards technological up-gradation there is no motivation. Why not passenger fare can be rationalized or WAP-7 locomotives can be mademore powerful so that they can run at a speed more than 200kmph?

Chinese corruption is very efficient compared to Indian corruption. In China, you pay only once and, after the payment you are assured that there will be no hindrance. Whereas, in India you have to pay multiple agencies, and inspite of the payment you are still not sure if the project will go through.

Chinese railway technology is very highly cost-effective (and good quality) as compared to Japanese or European technology. Also, Chinese railway technology is based on international standards unlike Japanese technology. There should be no shame in adopting Chinese technology

Another reminder, if it was needed, of how far we have fallen behind China. A mere 35 years ago, Indian Railways was ahead of China. In fact, Chinese officials have toured India several times and learnt a lot abt Banking, Stock Markets and Railways from India. Unfortunately, India does not seem to be learning from China !

China is winner for entire Mumbai metro rolling stock beating like of Japan, Germany, France, Spain. So obviously it is uncomparable. We should look towards China for modernising our system. They have already made such offer and we should grab it.

so that means we keep on riding these 100 k.m./per hrs for next 100 years. Why don’t you privatize it, if u cannot do it. It takes 6-7 hrs from delhi-jaipur 350 k.m’s isn’t it a shame.As there are private and govt. buses, similarly there it can be same for trains. Till when we would live in the dark ages.
