The U.S. action was the latest attempt tocounter what Washington sees as Beijing's efforts to limit freedom ofnavigation in the strategic waters, U.S. officials said.

The Chinese Defense Ministry called the move"illegal" and "provocative," saying that two Chinesewarships had warned the U.S. destroyer to leave.

I was in the Navyaboard the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) now decommissioned. While on WESTPACdeployment, we routinely sailed in the South China Sea and the Indian Ocean andanywhere else deemed necessary. We've been doing this for decades. Now Chinasays the whole China Sea is theirs? I think NOT !!! Try to stop us and see whathappens !!!
